The Edit by Ashlee White | How to create a living room that feels luxurious

Sydney-based stylist and content creator Ashlee White is drawn to living rooms that feel luxurious. In her own home, that feeling comes through in sculptural furniture, natural materials and a warm tonal palette.

Every piece in her home is chosen for the way it's used, from slow mornings with a coffee in hand to evenings on the sofa with her chihuahuas, Charlotte and Moon.

We asked Ashlee how she shaped a living room that feels luxurious and genuinely lived in. For her, it all started with one piece. Everything else followed.

"For this space, it was the Brooklyn Sofa in Cleo Taupe," says Ashlee. "I loved the soft curves, the generous shape and the warm neutral fabric, so I built the rest of the room around that feeling."

Here, the Brooklyn Sofa sets the tone. Soft curves shape the silhouette, while the warm Cleo Taupe upholstery gives the sofa a relaxed finish. The matching Brooklyn Ottoman extends the seating, while the Cava Travertine Coffee Table  introduces natural stone, bringing another material into the palette and balancing the softness of the surrounding upholstery.

Natural materials carry through the room. Travertine sits alongside soft upholstery, while linen curtains soften the daylight, and woven textures, including the woollen rug, add warmth throughout the space. The palette stays restrained, so the materials remain the focus.

It’s this mix of texture, tone and detail that Ashlee returns to when describing what luxury means to her.

"For me, luxury is in the textures and the little finishing touches," Ashlee says.

"Choosing natural materials like travertine and soft, plush fabrics makes such a big difference to how a room feels. It's those layers of softness, texture and warmth that make a space feel beautifully put together. Keeping the colour palette soft and tonal helps everything feel calm, cohesive and refined."

That sense of polish is balanced by the way the room is used. A favourite book rests on the ottoman, coffee sits within reach and Charlotte and Moon have made themselves comfortable on the sofa.

"I always think about how we actually live in the space," she says. "I want it to look beautiful, but it still needs to be comfortable and easy to use every day. We spend a lot of time in our living room and with two chihuahuas at home, comfort is a big part of that. The sofa had to be something we could all relax on, not just something that looked good in photos."

Ashlee considers comfort and practicality, from the fabrics to the flow of the room.

"I also consider fabrics, flow and how easy the space is to move through," Ashlee says. "Pieces like the ottoman are great because they feel cosy and practical, whether it's for putting your feet up, extra seating or making the room feel more complete."

Asked where to begin, Ashlee's advice is simple:

"Start with your main furniture piece and choose something that sets the mood for the room,"she says. "A soft, neutral sofa with beautiful curves instantly creates that calm and cosy feeling. Then layer in texture through a rug, curtains, cushions and natural materials. You don't need to over style it. Keeping things simple, warm and intentional is what makes the space feel really inviting."

Ashlee’s Edit shows how a luxurious living room can come together with a few considered choices. Soft curves, natural materials and a restrained tonal palette bring that feeling together, creating a space that looks beautiful and feels easy to live in. A feeling you can shape in your own home.
