Great furniture should maintain its lustrous shine over the years. But some materials require some upkeep and we've made it simple for you by collating some easy care tips to ensure they stand the test of time.
There's no doubt marble, concrete and, terrazzo furniture is unique and utterly stylish. These three natural materials each offer their own benefits and uplift any interior design scheme with an easy flair and uncommon beauty.
Yet much like a classic car, there is an element of care involved that is essential to ensure the longevity of your furniture. So how do you care for marble, concrete and terrazzo furniture?
How do you maintain a marble table?
Carrara marble is a world-renowned marble quarried from the picturesque Tuscany region of Italy. It is known for its lustrous white hues and unique natural veins, meaning that no two pieces are exactly the same.
It all begins with ancient marine organisms that leave behind shells that are rich in calcite. These remains create limestone, which in turn becomes marble under intense heat and pressure. The fact that Carrara marble is so remarkably pale is a sign that the limestone itself was highly pure, resulting in a phenomenal work of time, nature, and mankind’s craftsmanship in your living room.
Because marble is a natural, porous stone, it is relatively delicate and prone to chipping, scratching, and staining.
To care for your marble table here's what to do:
- Dust frequently with a soft, dry cloth, and clean any spills with a clean, damp cloth.
- Never use chemical cleaners or abrasive materials, but if necessary, you can mix warm water with mild soap to clean up spills – although be sure not to use excessive moisture, and always dry with a soft cloth afterward.
- Use runners and placemats to avoid putting anything hot or cold directly onto the surface of any marble table.
- Once a year, use a sealing product such as Guardsman Stone Seal & Protect to help avoid stains and etching.

How do you maintain concrete furniture?
Concrete furniture is a cool and chic addition to the home, all with effortless style and premium craftsmanship. These products are built to last, and offer an organic texture that welcomes nature into the home in an unexpected and beautiful form.
Yet due to its naturally porous structure, cement and concrete furniture is prone to marking. Each piece is sealed with a clear coat of PU to provide extra protection, but you’ll still need to take care of your concrete items to ensure they remain in exceptional condition.
To care for concrete, follow below tips:
- Avoid using abrasive cloths or cleaning products, as these can wear down the sealant.
- Opt for a pH-neutral cleaner with a soft, damp cloth. Use the same to clean up spills immediately.
- For long-lasting concrete table care, use Guardsman Stone Seal and Protect on the surface of your concrete table to maintain its protective layer once per year.

How do you care for terrazzo furniture?
Terrazzo is a special composite material that’s made from numerous chips of material, including granite, marble, quartz, and even glass. These chips are closely bound together, forming a hypnotising final product that’s as beautiful as it is durable and long-lasting.
The range of colours and shapes found in terrazzo furniture are their own subtle works of art, each piece one of a kind.
While our terrazzo furniture is sealed and made to last, it can also be more prone to staining than other materials due to its porous nature.
To care for Terrazzo furniture, follow below tips:
- Clean up spills immediately with a clean, damp cloth, and dust with a soft dry cloth.
- Use a sealant such as Guardsman Stone Seal and Protect to maintain the table’s surface.
A little extra care goes a long way in ensuring you enjoy the sheer beauty and grace of marble, cement, and terrazzo for the years ahead.
